"And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." Phil. 1:9-11

Discernment determines what is excellent. Obedience is the end result and, in our obedience to His commandments, we grow to love God and others more effectively. Our lives super-abound with His love. The result of our obedience is Christlikeness. A friend told me that one can't grow in Christlikeness - you are either being Christlike or you're not. You grow in your submission to Him and His commandments. What is He teaching you, in order that you might be better equipped to love and obey Him more effectively?

Worship Guide Location

In case you didn't guess the location, the worship guide below was photographed on the platform in the Fellowship Hall.

You have probably figured out that the people who move around regularly are more likely to win this game. Of course, sitting in new places also opens opportunities to take Pastor Minnick's challenge: finding ways to build each other up in love. So, lets look for new angles, talk to people, and get ready for some more Twix bars.

Volleyballs and Mayhem

The mayhem was a little hard to photograph, but we did get some good shots of the food. We also found out that Kaleigh Tompkins and Bethany Chism are pretty good bacon protectors, and Ryan Pilz can hit a back board with a sponge ball from half court.

Did you feed from God's Word today, or was your plate too full?

The beginning of a semester can be an absolute deluge for students; and people who work, like me, can get so busy "redeeming the time" that they can't sit down to a quiet meal. But food for your soul is vital. Jesus emphasized the lesson of Deuteronomy 8 when He quoted, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).
My parent's church used to sing this song (below) before meals at family camp (to the tune of the Doxology). Maybe you should try it before you open your Bible or start in on lunch.

We bow our heads before our food
And thank You for Your bounty, Lord.
May we be strengthened to do good
To serve You with both deed and word.

Yet man lives not by bread alone,
But by what from God's mouth proceeds.
Without that bread, man is undone
Though he may have no other need.

So fill us with Your bread, Oh Lord.
